My presonus audiobox is making a clipping type crackling sound when I try to play along to songs and monitor myself. Can anyone help? I'm running 32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium, 3GB ram, AMD Sempron SI-42 processor. Thanks

I picked up one of these last week too, and after an incredible amount of frustration, and the jaw dropping realization of how utterly terrible the drivers are for it, I suggest you do like me and take the damn thing back and buy something else. Running Vista 32 bit, I tried it with a number of ASIO hosts, including Ableton Live 8.0.1 and directly with some VSTi's, and ran into nothing but problems. The drivers don't work if you plug it into a different USB port than the one you installed it in. Audio corrupts (sounds grainy, crackling, just doesn't play, etc) on an off randomly. When I go to the audiobox driver settings to adjust the buffers, etc, it crashes the VST host (Ableton Live) every time after closing the window. And the whole thing just randomly crashes my system. The problem is that Presonus thought it would be a good idea to buy drivers for the Audiobox from a 3rd party, who make a generic driver for USB audio devices. This driver is an utter piece of crap.

I have similar problem under Win 7 32bit. Sometimes when i listen music not loud single cracks appear. Every time they have different time length and different noisiness. Similar problem was with my integrated sound card on beta drivers for Win7. I have hope that it's driver problem and in future releases will be decided.

I recently bought the Audiobox USB at the recommendation of a Sam Ash employee who said the recording quality was fantastic for home use. However I'm getting the same crackling and popping feedback from my stereo monitors even when I'm not playing any audio. It's really frustrating trying to record my guitar and be forced to listen to all the crapback. Would an external soundcard fix the problem? Or does the audiobox require that you use its built in driver? Also, any recommendations regarding a better quality recorder for around the same price, mostly for guitar/ vocals?

I don't know why this works, but whenever I plug my iPod into my usb port for charging, the audiobox doesn not crackle. I guess the way the USB is set up that it forces the audio to run through the iPod's driver? I dunno but its a silly but effective alternative for me.

exact same problem for me. I actually bought an M-Audio fast track pro from Dolphin music, only to find out that it was out of stock so an emplyee suggested that i buy the presonus audiobox instead as it was just as good but cheaper. I now feel totally ripped off as the product in this working state is utterly useless. There should be a guidline no how to get this product to work on different operating systems not just assume everyone has a mac (apparently it works fine on a mac). I will almost certainly not be buying any more Presonus products.

Not going to try to dissuade anyone who has their mind made up, so please don't think that is my intention. Have you run through the various tweaks to use USB audio interfaces in windows. It isn't designed for streaming audio in its purest form. I created this thread http://forumsarchive.presonus.com/posts/list/3535.page to help some of the tweaking issues. There are items there that pertain to firewire based interfaces but the list of Windows tweaks works for USB stuff as well. A couple of additions. If you are running on a laptop you might try removing the battery and running from outlet power. The battery causes windows to keep checking its power levels and has been known to cause glitches and crackles. ACPI might be another cause and it is addressed in the thread above. Give those a shot. Please don't lose all hope. Personally, I've been able to use my AudioBox but I don't use it for recording. I am not overly happy with the Ploytec drivers either and the ones that come with it on the disk serve me the best the updated version is glitchy at best and unusable at worst.

Having the same problem. It even does it when nothing is playing. I guess I can take it back but I'd really prefer it worked instead. I'm running on Windows 7 64 bit.

I have 2-1/2 computers. One is a Mac. As mentioned, this device works flawlessly with it. I sometimes run Windows XP in a VMWare Fusion virtual machine on the Mac - that's the '1/2' computer. When I installed the Windows drivers there, I got the Blue Screen of Death when I plugged in the device according to instructions. I could no longer even log in to Windows after restarting. Fortunately I had another user account set up. I was able to log in with that account and take the system back to a restore point before I installed AudioBox drivers. Once, when I had both OSs running, i accidentally clicked Connect to Windows instead of Connect to Mac. Same crash and burn of Windows. Baaaaaad drivers. Then I have an older WinXP machine. At least the drivers didn't crash Windows on that box, but the AudioBox is unusable on it it due to the noise problem cited here. Presonus really needs to dump whoever is developing those Windows drivers and get someone who knows what they're about.

I have had the same exact problem. I have two laptops. One uses WinXP and the other Win 7. The one with XP works fine but for some reason with the Win 7 computer I have to plug in a three way usb adapter before going into the computer usb port. I started with Win 7 32 bit and then upgraded to 64 bit hoping that would help but it is obviously the drivers. I wonder if the drivers are doing something with two much power to the Audiobox. When I have this wierd setup with the three way adapter the windows task manager shows quite a bit of power being drawn by just having it plugged in not even using it. For all those with this problem I would suggest trying to install the drivers with a usb adapter attached just so you don't have the crackling sounds frequent and randomly at least. Hopefully Presonus will get the clue to fix this driver problem soon. You shouldn't have to jimmy rig your setup just to make it work somewhat right. As of right now I will wait for a solution. Computer setup as follows: Hp laptop, WinXP 32 bit, 1.6ghz Intel Centrino, 2GB Ram, 120 GB HDD ( I don't really use this one anymore do to the slower setup) 2nd Laptop (use all the time) Compaq AMD 2.2Ghz Athlon X2, 6GB Ram, 160 GB HDD, Win 7 64 Bit. In both computers I use Sudio One Artist and the Audiobox. This message was edited 1 time. Last update was at 26/05/2011 04:40:25

hi everyone , try to change the power options inside control panel to 'high performance' (Windows 7) , it did the job for me.

That actually makes a great deal of sense. The hi perf settings provide full power at all times to your USB (unless that's been changed since I last looked) ports. Low or fluctuating power can cause crackling and dropouts.

I Too am Having THIS PROBLEM. It just started a few days ago. It had been working fine for months. I've been writing prolifically and quite Enjoying the Flow of Ease of Writing in Studio One Artist. It Allows me to 'Lay Down' 'Ideas' with the Greatest of Ease, which is WHY I bought it. I read up on it a good bit, before Choosing to Go With PRESONUS. I WANT an IMMEDIATE 'FIX' for this, either a Patch or a NEW SET OF DRIVERS from PRESONUS that work Specifically with Windows VISTA. You are getting a good deal of BAD PRESS about this ISSUE, and YOU NEED to RECTIFY IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!! Sincerely, Sterling McVay
